South Ossetia: back on track (video)
The Republic of South Ossetia is a state in the Caucasus. It borders Russia to the north and Georgia to the south, west and east. In Soviet times the republic was part of Georgia as an autonomous district. Uneasy relations between Georgia and South Ossetia started in the late 1980s. On the night of August 7 to 8, 2008, Georgian troops began shelling the capital, Tskhinval. The bloody war lasted for a week, but nevertheless it was a big tragedy for Ossetians. Now people are slowly awaking from the conflict and living a peaceful life.
